What is a car for? Making memories, right? Nothing like a journal to help with the memories. So let’s start a journal for the 981 Cayman.
July 18, 2020 – I have been looking for a Cayman. Primarily, I have been focused on a 2006 through 2008, because they fit in my price range. But, the interest rate banks quote on these older cars is very high. In addition, the 987.1 and 987.2 to a lesser extent, can have IMS issues.
Just for fun I decided what I could find in a 981 (2013 to 2016). I found a white one in Texas. The dealer is sending me some information on the car.
UPDATE: The car seems clean. 1 owner. Clean Carfax. But, no service records. The dealer doesn’t actually have the car yet, since the seller didn’t trade it in. He just sold it to the dealer and they will pick it up Monday. After taking a look at pictures and talking to the salesman about the car, I sent them a $1,000 deposit to hold the car.
This is the only picture I have seen of the car. It is still at the seller’s house in this picture I guess.
July 19, 2020 – I guess we will drive to Texas tonight to look at the car. I am not really looking forward to the drive. But, the car seems nice, and it seems like it is priced right.
I was able to get a few more pictures of the car, as well as a walk-around video.
July 20, 2020 – We are still driving to Texas. It is a 1,000 mile trip. And today is Julie’s birthday.
UPDATE: We got to the dealer. The car arrived, and it looks good. I took it on the first test drive. It is amazing. I truly never thought I would buy a Porsche this new. I have scheduled a PPI for tomorrow at a local shop.
July 21, 2020 – This morning I met the salesman at the dealer to take the car to the shop for a PPI. The salesman can’t drive a stick shift, so I drove. The car was awesome.
UPDATE: The shop couldn’t find anything wrong with the car. They said it is slinging a little grease out of the CV joints. But, other than that, nothing wrong. The paint thickness test checked out ok too.
UPDATE 2: After negotiating with the dealer I was able to get them to come down $1,000. And I also negotiated a discount on a 3-year, 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.
We start the long drive back home tonight.
Here is a picture of me and the salesman. He doesn’t look at thrilled as me, huh?
July 22, 2020 – After driving all day, we finally made it home. What a drive. What a car.
July 23, 2020 – I took the Cayman to look at a warehouse I am considering renting. Took a few pictures while I was there.
July 27, 2020 – The Cayman got its first bath at home. I still haven’t haven’t named the car. But, I need to. Not really driving it much because i need to get a clear bra put on it.
